Google is Developing online publishing platform
Search engine Giant Google is testing internet site for sharing knowledge about general topics. The main aim of Google is to developing online publishing platform where people can write their ideas on interested topic. this projects is seems to be same as wikipedia’s user contributed encyclopedia but with some key differences.
Currently this projects is in beta stage, they invite individuals to create clean looking web page with thier image and write entries on topic of their interest. Google called those entries as “Knols”, Here is one example of knols. Google’s “knol” project started earlier this week and is working with a group of writers by invitation only.
Google vice president of engineering Udi Manber wrote in Google official blog post. That “There are millions of people who possess useful knowledge that they would love to share, and there are billions of people who can benefit from it, Manber said in the post. The goal is for knols to cover all topics, from scientific concepts, to medical information … to how-to-fix-it instructions.”
This projects of Google will have to catch up with wikipedia. currently wikipedia having more than 7 millions articles in 200 languages and anonymous users constantly update Wikipedia entries in an ever-growing online encyclopedia that’s edited by a network of vetted editors. This will become a great competition for search engine giant Google. The site will eventually be opened to the general public and allow users to submit comments, questions or edits, as well as rate posts. People can also share the revenue with google though advertisement if they want.
